Here at Costas Inn, we have a wide variety of scrumptious shrimp dishes. Come on down and treat yourself to a delicious meal where you let us handle the cooking. Still, if you want to try your hand at preparing shrimp, here are some ways to cook it and spotlight it at your next dinner party!
General Preparation Tips
When it comes to cooking, there are a few things you should know. First of all, it’s your choice if you want to buy it fresh or frozen. Then you can also decide if you want to serve it with the heads and tails still intact. Since this could be potentially unappetizing to your guests or family, just consider their preferences. Either way, be sure to devein the shrimp, even if you aren’t planning to peel the shells off first.
Shrimp Scampi
Scampi is a delicious way to have a comforting pasta dish as a centerpiece of your fancy meal. Take garlic, butter, white wine, and lemon juice and toss them all in a saute pan. Noodles and parsley are the final touches. Trading the conventional wheat-based pasta for spaghetti squash noodles and adding a heap of sauteed spinach can add more nutrients.
With Grits
Shrimp and grits are a popular variant down south, especially in the Lowcountry of the Carolinas. It is both creamy and comforting, sure to hit the spot in this chilly winter. Use butter, bacon, and cheese as the building blocks of this dish.
Tacos
Everyone loves tacos. Try packing these tacos with black beans and avocado. You can either grill the shrimp or fry them first; it’s your choice! Another idea is to saute them before wrapping them in their corn tortillas.
Sauteed
Sauteed shrimp is also amazingly tasty. Along with the tacos mentioned above, you can use them with pasta, salads, and rice bowls. High heat cooking can produce a beautiful sear that is bursting with flavor. Be sure to keep an eye on the stove, though. Get them browned without burning them to a crisp! Cast-iron or stainless steel skillets are both good vessels, but still, make sure you can spread the protein around.
