Have you ever wondered where crab imperial got its name from? You probably know what king crabs are, whether or not they come from Alaska. Right now, let’s learn more about it along with with eastern shore grilled cheese. Brace yourselves, because crab season is coming!
Crab Imperial
Despite its impressive name, crab imperial is actually much easier to make, and indeed, find, than you might think! It is an icon of the Chesapeake Bay region, and even if you can find it along with other parts of the East Coast, you know in your heart that it won’t be the same as it would be in the Old Line State of Maryland during crab season.
First of all, crabmeat is mixed with imperial sauce and then the combination is baked until it is golden-brown and mouthwatering. The imperial sauce is a tantalizing blend of common ingredients that aren’t as fancy as the name suggests but are still plenty delicious – mayo, egg yolks, a mix of seasonings, and a generous helping of Old Bay. Come on down to our place and taste a twist on an old favorite that uses our special house blend of spices.
Need to know what kinds of crab you can use for this recipe? Well, glad you asked! Blue swimming crab, Dungeness crab, snow crab, king crab, and blue claw crab are all fair game!
