Amber Ale + Fish Tacos
One fantastic pairing is to pair up amber ale and fish tacos. Fish tacos first emerged from Baja California in Mexico but have grown extremely popular beyond its homeland. The fish is usually sea bass that is grilled, battered, or deep-fried. Amber ale is citrusy and malty that balance out the smokiness of the fish.
Sour Ale + Oysters
Cracking oysters out of their shells is incredibly satisfying. Something else that is satisfying? Finding the right sour ale to go with them. It’s tart and salty, perfect for oysters on the half shell. Sometimes, it’s hard to order oysters or you’re just not in the mood for it. Try grilled catfish instead!
Northwest Pale Ale + Anchovies = Pizza Delight
Pale ale doesn’t sound like it could pair well with anchovies. Put them together on pizza and it’s worthy of a chef kiss. The right beer needs to be able to stand out against the saltiness of the fish and the richness of the cheese on the pizza. Look for a beer that features hoppiness, floweriness, maltiness, and brightness.
Belgian White + Sushi
We know what you’re thinking: shouldn’t sushi be paired with sake? Give Belgian white a chance! In fact, in Japan, it’s much more common to enjoy a rice-based beer with sushi instead. White ales are citrusy enough to give you a pleasant fizz, and for that, you need Belgian white. After all, it complements the ginger that comes with the sushi and brings out the freshness of the fish without overwhelming it.
