Believe it or not, eating crab meat is good for you. Not only is it delicious and a treat for your taste buds, it is also packed with many nutrients that your body needs. Here are some of the reasons why you should consider eating more crab meat this summer!
It Has Protein
According to the CDC, women should eat 46 grams of protein every day, and men should ingest 56 grams. Eating three ounces of crab meat gives you about 16 grams of protein. Since protein breaks down periodically throughout the day, you need to keep eating sources of protein, such as fish, crabs, and other types of meat and seafood. Did you know that crab is a complete source of protein? That means it has all twenty amino acids that your body needs to regenerate more protein levels.
It Has Vitamin B12
You probably take B12 supplements throughout the day. These supplements can either be chewable gummies or are dissolvable tablets that melt under your tongue. Eating more crab meat also gives you more of this vitamin, which can help boost your energy levels. The more B12 you have in your system, the more healthy red blood cells you can produce. This vitamin also benefits brain function, which is another reason to get more of it in your diet!
How to Enjoy
Now that your appetite is going, let’s talk about ideas for how to enjoy crab meat. Sprinkle chopped-up meat into your next salad of mixed greens. Or, you could combine the meat with mayo, onions, and herbs to make a crab salad sandwich. Use a sharp knife to make a pocket in a fillet of chicken or fish (halibut, in particular) and stuff the pocket with some cooked crab meat. Also, put in garlic and spices for an even tastier combination. Finally, try sauteing crab meat with peas, mushrooms, and water chestnuts for a delightful stir fry!
