Nothing says summer more than delicious crab cakes with all the fixings. However, not all sides are created equal—some things just weren’t meant to be eaten as sides with crab cakes. Choosing the right pairings can make or break your meal, so how do you make your guests happy with your delicious summer feast? We have some sides for you to try!
Roasted Potatoes and Veggies
We love roasted red potatoes with a bit of crumbled bacon, garlic, and butter as one of your sides with crab cakes. Grab a pan, melt some butter and add cooked halved potatoes and you’ll have a mouthwatering side in about 8 minutes. Same with veggies, except you can roast them in the oven while making your cakes.
Corn Chowder or Fritters
The best of all veggies as one of your sides with crab cakes is corn! Corn is in season and sweet all summer long, meaning it fits right in with crab cakes or if you’re picking crabs. Corn chowder makes a great side with some crusty bread. Fritters are made with pancake batter in a skillet. Fry them in a bit of oil until they’re golden brown and crisp, and you’ll see them fly off of your serving platter.
Hushpuppies
Hushpuppies are very easy to make and taste excellent with any type of seafood, especially with crab cakes! These bite-size cornmeal dough balls are deep-fried until golden brown- making them sweet, salty, and crispy.
Cole Slaw or Chickpea Salad
Sometimes, the perfect sides with crab cakes are served cold when it’s hot outside. Now would be the ideal time to showcase your prized family coleslaw recipe or make it quick with some shredded cabbage mix from the store! Chickpea salad has cool, refreshing veggies like tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and avocado with some tangy vinaigrette dressing. Unlike lettuce salads, this will keep for days!
