What do you do for fun when the weather gets cold? Come to Costas Inn and sing karaoke with your friends, of course! Great seafood and delicious drinks pair well with good friends and karaoke. We kick off the fun on Saturday nights at 9:00 pm, lasting until 1:00 am. Best of all, there’s no cover charge to participate! Just treat yourself to steamed crabs while singing your favorite tunes. And don’t forget to check out our other weekend specials! If you or your friends have the stage fright jitters, here are some tips to get you front and center!
Pick a Crowd Pleaser
Singing in front of people can be nerve-wracking, so it’s best to pick a song that you can count on. Think of songs that are popular right now or are classic hits. New songs like “I Knew You Were Trouble” by Taylor Swift and classics like “ABC” by the Jackson 5 and “Dancing in the Dark” by Bruce Springsteen are always a hit. Our personal favorite is “Rock Lobster” by the B-52s! When all else fails, there’s the classic “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey to get everyone in the karaoke mood. Picking a song that has a catchy chorus is a great idea for a karaoke beginner, because everyone will sing along with you! Your voice will be drowned out by the voices of everyone else in the bar who is singing along with you.
Practice, Practice, Practice!
If you want to sing but are nervous to get up on stage, you’re probably trying to make sure you pick the perfect song. Nothing is worse than getting up on stage in front of friends and strangers and having to stand awkwardly through a 20-bar intro or trying to croak out a song that’s not in your register. To make sure you don’t get stuck in an embarrassing situation, make sure that you listen to your song ahead of time. You want to make sure that you are familiar with the lyrics so you’re not caught off guard. Practicing alone will not only help you to learn the lyrics, but it will also ensure that your voice can reach all the notes. Practice in front of a mirror to make sure that you are making eye contact and being expressive. Even if you know all the words, looking at the floor will not help your confidence. Looking at the audience helps to assert your stage presence. If you don’t feel like looking at people while you sing, focus on a point in the back of the room or even the side of the stage and sing to that. Just remember to keep you head up and sing loud and proud!
Bring Your Friends
By far the best protection against karaoke embarrassment is your friends. Even if you bomb your song, your friends will cheer you on and support you. It helps to have other people you know watch you sing; the support of your friends will make you feel more at ease and less frightened. Your friends can also bring levity to your performance and even get up on stage and sing with you! After all, karaoke is all about having fun with your friends. So bring the gang for some Maryland blue crabs and get your groove on!
