Simple Ways to Cook Your Next Batch of Crabs

Simple Ways to Cook Your Next Batch of Crabs

Just because crabbing season has mostly dwindled doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy your fill of crabs.

Just because crabbing season has mostly dwindled doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy your fill of crabs. Once you’ve collected your crabs and you’re ready to clean them, it’s time to move on. The next step is to decide how you want to prepare them, whether it’s for you, your family, or your guests!

Boiling

Let’s start with one of the most basic methods: boiling. Doing it this way might drain away some of the crab’s naturally tasty flavor. Even so, it’s quick, easy, and remains popular even with all of the other available options. Start by bringing a large pot of water to boiling point. Then add plenty of salt. Many people claim that beer and wine add a unique twist to the way the crabs taste once they’re ready to come out. Classic Maryland seasonings, including Costas Inn’s unique house blend, are the perfect way to finish off this delicacy. Cook the crabs by dropping them into the pot one by one as quickly as you can. Use tongs to pull them out.

Steaming

A similar method to boiling is that old standby: steaming. For most crab feasts and other gatherings centered around our delicious crustacean friends, this is the most popular way to cook them. This way, they won’t be too waterlogged and lose all their flavor. All you need is some salted water brought to boil, a steamer basket, and a lid. Once they’re done steaming, you can clean them up and serve them, much to everyone’s delight!

Grilling

Grilling is an unconventional technique, but one that works. Just remember to clean the crabs first. Boiling and steaming can get the fun started, and grilling them can add a flash of flavor that only fire can bring.

Roasting

You can also roast the crabs, even if you haven’t heard of anyone doing this before. For this to work, the oven needs to be preheated to 450 degrees. Then use oil and butter to add another layer of flavor. Shallots, garlic, ginger, and green onions all pack an impressive punch!
