Not only are there a plethora of different things you can make with crab meat–soup, crab cakes, dip, etc.–there are also plenty of ways you can cook them.

One of the best aspects of eating crabs is the number of ways you can prepare them.  Not only are there a plethora of different things you can make with crab meat–soup, crab cakes, dip, etc.–there are also plenty of ways you can cook them.  Everyone’s favorite way of cooking is different, though, so you have have to try a few different ways before you find the one that’s right for you.  Here are three processes for cooking crab that you can consider.

  1. Steamed Crabs

This is a popular way to eat crabs in Maryland.  Steaming a crab means you’ll have more of the juices left behind, which means more flavor!  Steaming crabs is also fairly simple, and the process is about the same as any other steamed food.  If you’re looking for something traditional, steaming crabs is the way to go.  Costas Inn can provide you with your steamed crab fix all year long, so don’t be discouraged if the season isn’t right.

  1. Boiled Crabs

Everywhere else, boiled crabs are the most popular way to eat crabs.  The process is simply to throw the crabs into a pot of water and boil until done.  Some people swear that adding white wine to the water makes the crabs even more delicious than they would be on their own.  But you should always at least add a pinch of salt and some olive oil!  Though it’s an easy way to do things, there is definitely an art to boiling crabs.  You may have to try a few times before you get it right.

  1. Grilled Crabs

Unlike the other two ways to cook crabs that we have mentioned, when you grill crabs, you must clean them before you start.  If you boil them or steam them for a short period of time, that will do the trick.  Then, throw them on the grill with some butter and rosemary.  You can also try to grill soft shell crabs.  Generally, the rule is to grill the crabs until they’re brown on either side.  Then, serve!
