While the main course of a seafood meal is the focus, sides and desserts are what define the entire experience. Whether you’re hosting your own seafood feast, or you’re out to eat at Costas Inn, choosing the perfect dessert is an important part of fully enjoying your meal. But you can’t just pick any dessert at random; choosing the right taste that pairs well with seafood means you have to know your stuff. Let us give you a few quick examples of desserts that go perfectly with seafood entrees.
1. Chocolate
Because seafood like crab and shrimp is usually coated in a salty seasoning like Old Bay, it can be a smart idea to pair the entree with something sweet. Salty and sweet are classic combinations that are sure to excite your tastebuds. It’s why salted caramel is so good! A sweet chocolate mousse after seafood, or even a brownie, are great ways to balance the salty taste of the entree.
2. Fruit
Seafood is sometimes coated with a bit of lemon or lime to give it that extra kick. Citrus is a strong flavor that should be accompanied by other fruity tastes. Any dessert with fruit involved is a great way to balance out citrus. For example, our peach melba is an excellent choice. You could also combine sweet and fruity into a delicious apple pie.
3. Sweet But Light
Heavy desserts like ice cream can always be tasty after a meal, but sometimes, you just don’t feel like eating that much. Since desserts are so important, though, you can solve that problem by choosing a dessert that is both sweet and light. The mousse we mentioned earlier is a great option; but don’t shy away from things like cheesecake or creme brulee. When you keep yourself from heavier options like chocolate, you can enjoy dessert no matter how full you feel.
