Now we have told you before about the history of Costas Inn and the founding of our 
restaurant in 1971, but that is not the only thing that a tradition is made of. Sure, we have a daily tradition of creating fresh crab cakes for our customers, and we have a tradition of personal excellence we follow as a restaurant. But right now we are talking about the traditions of crab cakes (Especially Costas Inn crab cakes), National Bohemian, and the Baltimore Orioles.
That’s right, Costas Inn is a proud participant in all three of these long standing MD traditions, especially all three combined. Though the combination is truly something you must witness, these things tend to happen gradually:
- National Bohemian was established in 1885, with its first factory located in Baltimore, MD.
- In the 1930’s is when the recipe for Baltimore’s crab cakes began solidifying into what we now call crab cakes (before that it was often called Crab Croquettes or crab flake cakes).
- It wasn’t until years later, in 1954 that the Orioles would come to Baltimore for the first time in the incarnation that we now know.
- In 1965, National Bohemian would become the official sponsor of the Baltimore Orioles, also making it by extension the beer of Baltimore.
In present day, you can visit Costas Inn to enjoy a great night of Baltimore crab cakes, O’s baseball, and Natty Bohs. All the while you can bask partaking in three great and long standing Baltimore traditions.
