It’s the end of the year, and January is almost here! Is it one of your resolutions to learn to cook more? If so, then that promise to yourself is easier to achieve than you think! Although you think that all crab cakes are broiled, that’s a common misconception. Baking your next tray’s worth of Maryland-style crab cakes is a tremendous way to make them more presentable, more delicious, and yes, healthier as well.
The Ingredients You Need
Creating homemade crab cakes doesn’t have to be a daunting task – again, we can provide them for you ahead of time. Even though family gatherings will continue to look unusual in the coming months, you can still wow everyone under your roof. For one thing, you’re going to need some tasty ingredients to make sure that the crab cakes will come out delicious and filling at the same time!
- 1 egg and 1 egg white
- 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
- Juice from 1 lemon
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ¼ teaspoon fresh cracked pepper
- 8 ounces of crabmeat
- ½ cup whole-wheat panko breadcrumbs
- 2 cloves of minced garlic
- ½ a minced jalapeno
- 1 chopped green onion
- Either olive oil or oil spray
- ½ cup of nonfat plain Greek yogurt
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
Quick Tips for Preparation
Now that you know what you need, let’s talk about how to prepare your crab cakes before it is time to put them in the oven. Baking a batch of crab cakes is surprisingly easy, and let’s find out why! After you get all of your ingredients, heat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Grab a large bowl and whisk the eggs, mustard, lemon juice, paprika, and black pepper. Then you’ve got to add the crab, garlic, jalapeno, and green onion. The bread crumbs should be stirred in as gently as possible to combine everything without making a big mess.
The mixture should then be formed into a set of 8 patties and then carefully place them on a baking sheet that is already lined with either parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Brush or spray each crab cake with some olive oil before you continue. Bake for 15 minutes until lightly golden; pull them out of the oven and serve them up with some yummy sauce!
