California-Styled Sides
Last time out, we talked about two amazing ways to eat steamed crabs. That time, we suggested pairing them up with New Orleans Cajun styles sides or influenced by East Coast traditions up and down the Atlantic. This time, we’re going to the opposite coast: sunny California. Out here, steamed Dungeness crab is a huge hit. Fresh seafood is the best seafood. There’s no question about that! Plus, crabs and their other friends from under the sea taste a lot better when they are eaten as freshly as possible. Freshness is the name of the game in Cali, complete with veggies and salads like asparagus, green beans, steamed broccoli, and Caesar salad. Another popular option is to include a simple green salad as a side offering. We can’t forget about pasta, either! Yum! After all, pasta has to rank up there as one of the ultimate comfort foods!
Adding Bread, Desserts, and Other Deliciousness
Bread makes everything a little bit better. Butter and oil are two of the most common spreads for bread, and they’re also excellent companions for crabs, lemon juice, or no lemon juice. Bread ideas coming from all corners of the country include cornbread, hush puppies, baguettes, Italian bread, and even sourdough.
As for dessert, don’t dismiss banana pudding, peach cobbler, or red velvet cake. All three of these treats are wildly popular down south. Meanwhile, cheesecakes, baked apple pies, fried apple pies rock the table’s boat as well. Finally, who can resist a light, zesty, and refreshing finishing course of sorbet covered in berries?
