Eating crabs is a favorite among Marylanders. Crab feasts of all sorts happen a lot during the summer in the Old Line State. If you’re in Maryland, you probably understand the correct way to eat crabs. However, there are a few side items that you can’t start a crab feast without. If you are new to crab feasting, you’re in the right place. Read on for a few essentials you’ll need to complete your next crab feast!
Something to Open Up Your Crabs With
Even crab feast pros are better off using a crab mallet and a knife for picking meat off the crabs. Crabs can be sharp in certain places, and it doesn’t make sense to risk cutting yourself when you use tools for extracting that delicious crab meat.
Newspaper Makes Cleaning Much Easier
Picking your crabs is fun, but it can be messy. Expect your hands to be covered in seasoning in a matter of seconds. If possible, it is recommended that you have your crab feast outdoors. Cover a picnic table with old newspaper, and then start setting your table so that you don’t make a complete mess.
Ice Cold Drinks
Crabs and beer make the ideal combination. Make sure your refrigerator is well stocked with the ideal beer of your choice. You can also opt for water or your favorite juice or soda if you’d prefer a beverage without alcohol.
Side Dishes with Your Crab Feast
Corn on the cob is another delicious staple dish. You could also use sides like cole slaw, macaroni and cheese, hush puppies, and fries. To complete the feast, you could also add appetizers like clams casino, buffalo wings, and steamed shrimp with Old Bay seasoning.
Paper Towels and Sanitary Wipes
It is only possible to have a crab feast with paper towels. Nobody wants dirty hands when you’re dealing with side dishes. Make sure there are plenty of paper towel rolls on your table or sanitary wipes readily available.
