On Monday night, Costas Inn hosted a fantastic event. The nonprofit organization Stand Tall and Reach for the S.T.A.R.S. held a fundraiser that racked up over $1,700 for the program. That’s just downright amazing! Leroy Yegge serves as the organization’s Executive Director; he quickly described the purpose of the group and how the event itself unfolded the other night.
Reaching Out to Help the Community
Reach for the S.T.AR.S focuses on helping young adults on the autism spectrum, with Down Syndrome, and with other disabilities. These disabilities, however, do not need to hamper having a happy and comfortable life beyond just socially speaking. These young adults stay in school until they are 21 to get extra education and adjust to the next phase of their lives. The primary age group of the organization is also focused on adults from 21 to 48. The youngest member is 18.
Their social activities are planned to happen once a month. And at these activities, the gatherings are meetups intended to get them out of the house and spend time with their friends. Unfortunately, Covid has put a halt to their scheduled activities. However, this year Stars’ big Christmas holiday party takes place on December 12th.
Costas Contributed to the Huge Success
The fundraiser was an enormous success. It was meant to raise money for the party in question. Costas was a huge part of that success. The event was open to the public. Special guests such as the Baltimore Orioles mascot bird, legendary player Scott McGregor, and radio personality Bob Hainey from 105.7 took part in the festivities.
The fundraising portion of the night revolved around auctioning off multiple items. As we mentioned before, the total was over $1,700. Although this was only the first time the event was held, Yegge looks forward to the future. That way, the organization can build relationships with Costas Inn and do more events there.
