One of the world’s greatest spectacles is underway in Brazil, and you can watch it right here in Baltimore at Costas Inn! The World Cup has been underway for a little more than a week and it has already been one of the most exciting cups in recent memory. In the first 14 games there were an average of 3.41 goals per game, which is the highest number since the 1958 cup. And, it only took 8 games for the number of goals scored (25) to reach the total number of goals scored in the entire round robin phase of the 2010 tournament. Not only that, but the reigning world cup champion Spain has already been dethroned, getting throttled 5-1 by the Netherlands and blanked 2-0 by Chile.
The cup is open for the taking, and plenty of underdogs are playing to get their shot at it. The United States won a thriller against Ghana after having lost to them in 2 previous world cups, and face Portugal on Sunday at 6. Though they’ll be without one of their best strikers (Jozy Altidore, out with a strained hamstring), Portugal is coming off a demoralizing 4-0 loss to Germany, and their star striker Cristiano Ronald is nursing a knee injury of his own.
