Here in Maryland, summertime means a lot of things, like snowballs, peppermint sticks with lemon, going down to the ocean, and enjoying Orioles baseball games. The crab feast is one other hallmark of summer here in Maryland. We’re now in the midst of summer, which means you can start to plan out a crab feast! The centerpiece of your table should be a crab-based dish. But for those without the aspirations of being a fancy chef, what can you do? Today, we will list a guide for cooking tasty crab-based dishes. Read on to learn more!
Tips for Boiling Your Crabs
Let’s say that you are planning a big shindig ahead of the 4th of July. Independence Day will be here soon, so what better way to celebrate than with a large meal of tasty steamed crabs? First, bring a large pot of water to boil. Do not forget to add some salt, too! Beer and wine will kick the flavors up a notch. Oh, and remember to use some signature house-blended seasonings to add more punch!
Tips for Steaming Your Crabs
You may prefer to steam crabs instead. This cooking method helps your crabs retain the delightful juices and prevents them from becoming a bit waterlogged. Bring in an inch of salted water to your boiling point inside of a big pot. Then, assemble the crabs by putting them into a steamer basket. You could pile the crabs into the pot, one on top of the other. Cover your pot and let them cook for about ten to twenty minutes – it depends on the sizes of the crabs. Once the crabs are ready to come out, allow them to cool off for a bit. At that point, you could clean them off and serve them. Rinsing them under some cool water will shave a bit of valuable time off the waiting period.
