3 Different Types of Fish to Use for Fish and Chips

3 Different Types of Fish to Use for Fish and Chips

Just remember to fry both the fish and the french fries at the same time so that they’ll be ready to eat without going cold!

Do you love fish and chips? It can be a lovely combination of salty and crunchy, depending on where you get your fix. It all depends on if it is restaurant-style, pub-style, or from a food truck. Wondering what types of fish are best used for this dish? Let’s find out together! Just remember to fry both the fish and the french fries at the same time so that they’ll be ready to eat without going cold!

Cod

Cod is the most popular choice, and for most consumers, this is what first comes to mind when they think of fish and chips. It’s mild and tender, the perfect complement to the breading on top and the malt vinegar or tartar sauce that you pair the fish and fries with. Don’t forget about the salt, either! It adds another dimension of flavor that you can’t resist

Haddock

Many chefs prefer to use haddock for fish and chips instead. While it’s not as flaky or as tender as cod, haddock carries a much more flavorful punch to it. It is sweeter, which makes a great partner for the butteriness of the batter you use to coat the pieces of fish that you are planning on serving or enjoying. Need ideas for a dipping sauce? Play around with curry sauce for another addition to the party for your taste buds.

Pollack

Finally, let’s talk about pollack. While pollack doesn’t seem like the most popular or obvious candidate for this treat of a meal, it is gaining some steam, slowly but surely. Pollack is part of the cod family, so it stands to reason that it would have a similar taste and texture. It’s juicy and tender and isn’t as bland as cod tends to be. Batter and fry it, and then garnish with lemon juice and tartar sauce.
