Fried fish and shrimp are unbelievably delicious. Seafood of any kind is so versatile, you’ll never run out of ideas for prepping and cooking them to make your next amazing meal. You may dismiss popcorn shrimp as underwhelming fast-food offerings. Even when you grab bags of our frozen little friends, you can find ways to make them the superstars of your dining experience!
Popcorn Shrimp is Deliciously Simple
Popcorn shrimp is a fun nickname for tiny shrimp that have been breaded and deep-fried. Even though other shrimp dishes call for jumbo shrimp, in this case, you will want to use the smallest ones you can find – that way, they are as bite-sized as possible. It’s often considered a snack food or an add-on for larger proteins such as steak, chicken, beef, and pork.
The Breading Makes a Difference
Yes, the breading does make a noticeable difference. As with many other cooking methods, breading the shrimp is a delicate balance. Too much or too little can be equally disappointing. Shrimp and breading are, unsurprisingly enough, the two main ingredients. Other optional ingredients include spices, creole seasoning, chili powder, and cajun seasonings. Experiment until you find one you like – may we suggest you incorporate our house-made blend of spices? For the best breading results, be sure to use panko breadcrumbs.
Be Careful Around Cooking Oil
Once the shrimp has been prepared (or dredged in flour as you desire), you can proceed to fry them. You don’t need anything special to serve as the cooking oil – common cooking oil does the trick. Either way, be careful around shrimp in the deep-fryer! The oil needs to be extremely hot to produce satisfactory results – but spitting oil can hurt you or lead to other more serious mishaps in the kitchen.
