Shrimp is delicious. There’s no question about that since it’s considered a delicacy all over the world! Even if you’re not a fan of shrimp-cocktail, you have many options to choose from when you’re in the mood for some freshly-cooked shrimp. Then again, let’s suppose that your spouse makes a mean shrimp salad. You’ll probably be left wondering: what are the secret ingredients in a truly tasty shrimp salad? Well, we will clue you in!
So What is Shrimp Salad?
Much like chicken salad, egg salad, tuna salad, or potato salad, shrimp salad is a dish that isn’t actually served on a bed of lettuce. That would make it a “salad-salad” so to say. Cooked shrimp is essential, and it is mixed with a creamy sauce that is based on mayonnaise. So if you aren’t exactly a huge fan of mayo, this could change your mind! It’s great for spring, and fantastic for summer, too!
The Core Ingredients
Before you can dive in and make some for your next lunch or dinner, you’ve got to know which ingredients you’ll need to use. That’s where we come in:
- Tailless shrimp (either tiny or medium, your choice!]
- Mayo
- Sour cream
- Celery
- Fresh dill
- Lemon juice
- As much salt and pepper as you prefer
- Melted butter, rolls, or hot dog buns if you are in the mood for a sandwich!
The Secret Shrimp That’s Not a Secret Anymore
You’ll need some pre-cooked frozen shrimp. It can’t be raw, either. Make sure the shrimp is deveined and peeled before you begin – leaving the shells on will give this spin on shrimp a weird texture that is out of place. Medium-sized shrimp are perfect for packing a sandwich roll or turning a bed of lettuce into something more appealing. Salad shrimp are also great for sandwiches, but the real delight comes when you pair them with half of an avocado.
